Yeah, it has looting and shooting awesome parkour and crafting, but I don't feel like it's competing for the same playerbase as Destiny.Ĭlick to shrink.I honestly feel like post-expansion Division 2 has some of the best buildcrafting the series has had, it just needed more and better content, there wasn't much nuance to how you tackled new content because everything was just mow down the same enemies. I've also put in a hundred or so hours into Warframe, and I wouldn't put it in the same category as the above games. It's fun but it's not exactly competing with Destiny. Borderlands doesn't really care about balancing and just gives you awssome gear like guns that shoot swords. I've played several Borderlands games, and I'd say they're all fun singleplayer games but don't fall into the same category as pseudo-MMO that Destiny is in. Outriders is a fun romp if you only look at it as a single player game, but the cover based shooting feels clunky compared to Division and the looting/gunplay/abiliies is also lacking compared to Destiny. I loved the freedom of flying around but that game had almost nothing else going for it.

Like another poster here said, the real life setting of Division along with all enemies being normal humans might have been an issue.Īnthem was also fun for the first few hours.

I liked Division/Division 2's cover based shooting and it had a good crafting mechanic long before Destiny chose to delve into crafting, but The Division just never grabbed me like Destiny. They predate soulslike as a gaming trope, but since its popularity has exploded over the last decade, many MV/RL games have started to adopt elements of SLs like punishing difficulty curves and scavenging resources from your last body.I've played most recent looter shooter and none of them has been able to grab me like Destiny.

Other games that can be described as strictly soulslikes include The Surge (sci-fi), Bloodborne (gothic horror, PS exclusive), Fallen Order, Ashen (fantasy), Code Vein (post-apocalyptic/anime), Darksiders 3 (dark fantasy, very different to DS and DS2 in gameplay), Hellpoint (scifi/horror), Immortal Unchained (scifi/horror, ranged combat focused), Let It Die (scifi/anime), Lords of the Fallen (fantasy), Mortal Shell (horror/fantasy), Necropolis (fantasy, procedurally generated), Nioh & Nioh 2 (Japanese fantasy), and Remnant From the Ashes (dark fantasy, looter, ranged combat focused).īranching out from this specific style of game, have a look at Metroidvania and Roguelike games, which are typically 2D but with similar tropes to soulslikes like an emphasis on boss battles and significant consequences for death. Its two sequels, Dark Souls II and III received far more universal acclaim. As an early effort made almost a decade ago, it's inevitably going to be a little rough around the edges as the developers (and broader subgenre) really found their feet. Also Dark souls, another fromsoft game, but i've heard its unpolished and clunky in alot of areas.ĭark Souls was pretty much the second game in the subgenre that the series pioneered, with games of this style literally now referred to as being a soulslike. I heard fallen order is pretty good but im not sure. I loved Sekiro but I am not sure what to play now ive'd platinum'd it.
